2020 Top 3 Trends in Concrete + Pre-cast

As Architectural Polymers rolls into our 28th year in business we asked our CEO & Founder, Marshall Walters, for his trend predictions in the concrete and tilt-up world for 2020:

Tumbled Thin Brick

Many modern designs will incorporate tumbled thin brick - brick that has been methodically distressed during the production process in order to achieve a worn and imperfect character to evoke a nostalgic and classical feel.  Perfect for historically sensitive projects.  Our Quartz, Hamburger University, and AvidXchange projects are great examples of this trend.

Contemporary Texture

Exterior textures bring buildings to life by providing multi-dimensional qualities that can be revealed with changes in light, a new season or the sense of touch. Modern linear textures inspired by European design will emerge in greater numbers for the US in 2020. Architectural Polymers has been following this trend for a couple of years and recently incorporated exciting new textures in a number of projects including Adaptimmune, Kann Farms and the Plenty Valley Theater.

Perhaps the trend we're most excited about, so we've saved it for last is... Terracotta Inlay Tiles.  Modern Terracotta tiles can be found in the form of rain screen which incorporates an expensive engineered metal attachment system. Architectural Polymers is fully embracing the re-emergence of thee cost-prohibited version of terracotta cast into the concrete panel, which you can see in our Logan Airport and Cornell University collaborations.
